About Our Home and Our Ragdolls

We have always had cats in our home, but it wasn’t until we decided to purchase a purebred Ragdoll cat that our house evolved from being human-centered to being completely cat-centered. In addition to couches and chairs there are cat trees in nearly every room. Instead of a hallway we now have a racetrack that thunders of cat paws as they race from one end of the house to the other. The rooms in our home have been transformed into maternity wards, feline lounge areas, kitty eating areas, and litter robots (more on that later). The top quality foods that they eat, constant attention that they receive, and care for their health and physical well being has bonded us to our kitties even more, so we are very selective and want to make sure our kittens will go to wonderful homes.

WeLoveOur Ragdolls is registered with TICA, CFA, and ACFA. We are a very small home cattery located in Vancouver, Washington (close to Portland, Oregon) in the USA. All of our Ragdoll Kings and Queens have been tested and are negative for Polycystic Kidney Disease, Hypertrophic Cardiomyopathy, Retinal Dystrophy, FIV and FeLV. None of our cats (including our non-Ragdoll cats) are outdoor and all are indoor only (but they do get to play in the Catio!).

Blue Lynx Bicolor & Blue Lynx Mitted

What are Ragdoll cats and how are they different from other breeds?

Ragdoll cats are a newer breed that was developed in the 1960s in California, USA. They are pointed cats that come in the colors of Seal, Chocolate, Flame (Red), and Cinnamon and the dilutes of those colors, Blue, Lilac, Cream, and Fawn, respectively. The patterns are bicolor, mitted, or pointed and may be lynx (striped) or not. If you see white on a Ragdoll, that is actually “covering” the genetic color of the cat. In other words, they all genetically have color on their ears and tail, but it may not be visible if it’s covered by white or white spotting. All traditional Ragdoll cats have gorgeous blue eyes and are incredibly smart and social.

Ragdolls are bred to be big cats with a medium-long, super-soft coat. Ragdolls are born white and are slow growing and do not reach their full color and size until about three to four years old. Males are typically between 15 to 20 pounds, and females are between 10 and 15 pounds. Ragdolls are very social and love to be around their owners. It’s critical that they are socialized and well cared for early in life to enhance these wonderful social and sweet qualities of the breed. And then when they come to you, it’s important that they always have a friend around - whether it be another cat, dog, or human. Ragdolls typically do not like to be alone.

Our Ragdolls are bred for good health, sweet personality, beauty and breed standard. Ragdoll personalities are docile, sweet, and not vicious. They won’t attack unless in play, and even then it’s loving and sweet. For that reason all Ragdolls should always be kept inside and never declawed. If they were to face an attacker it’s likely that they could not defend themselves.

Some Ragdolls learn to play fetch, or catch; some will jump up when you make the bed and want to play in the covers; some will suddenly flop over when they feel like it, and they can all nap for hours. Ragdolls love to curl up with you in a warm place and purr. As with any of us, each is different and have their own personality - some are talkative, some enjoy music, or like to hunt, some love video games (yes really!) and some are quiet and prefer to lounge, but they are all cuddly and lovable.

Caring for Your Ragdoll

Ragdolls are social cats. They love to be around humans and other cats. If your kitty will be left at home alone for more than two or three hours per day, they will be happier with a friend. It is ideal to get two kittens together so that they are bonded and will play together. If you decide to get two kittens from us, we will credit $100 towards the cost. It is important to us that each and every kitty finds a loving and happy furever home.
